LIST OF ACTIVITIES (2008-2010)

The 3rd Conference Sabah Catholic Educators'

The conference was held on August 15th to 18th, 2008 in Bundu Tuhan Retreat Center. It was attended by the Catholic teachers in Sabah. About 120 participants gathered in BTRC for the conference with the objectives

1) to create a greater awareness of the realities of the young today

2) to deepen our understanding of the various forces such as, culture, social pressures and the dominant values that are moulding the lives of the young today

3) to continue our reflection of the above realities as educators and faith formators eg: teachers, parents, parish leaders, catechist in the light of our Christian faith

4) to redefine the role of Catholic Educators in Sabah and identify some concrete ways to bring about changes

ALPHA for Teachers

The AEC has been promoting ALPHA course organized by Sacred Heart Cathedral for teachers by visiting schools around Kota Kinabalu area.

BOG Seminar
The seminar was held on 23rd April 2009 at the Catholic Diocesan Centre (CDC) Penampang. It was attended by all of the Board of Governors together with their respective School Heads.
This seminar was held in order to synchronize the BOG working system and in guiding the School Heads and the Parish Priest especially on the process of recommending a new set of BOG member to the authority, the opening of account and on managing the fund provided by the Federal Education Ministry.

CATHOLIC TEACHERS MINISTRY

Penampang Catholic Teacher have been very active in this ministry. they organised retreat, house rosaries during the month of October. Early June 2009, they had invited Sr. Techie Rodriguez to give talk to the teachers around Penampang and Kota Kinabalu. This coming March they will visit the Lord's Flock for "Teachers Empowerment" by Sr. Techie Rodriguez. December 2009, they held get together Christmas cum fund raising dinner for the hostels in Kiulu, Kota Marudu and Keningau.

MALAYSIAN CATHOLIC EDUCATION COUNCIL (MCEC)

This is held yearly: the President Archbishop Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam has been inviting the chairperson of AEC to attend and update the church and schools on matters of NAtional Education Policy and regarding our stand as aided mission schools.

CONFERENCE OF CHRISTIAN MISSION SCHOOLS IN MALAYSIAN

Tan Sri Bernard Dompok initiated and funded the above conference on the 26-27 June 2009 at the Olympic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Forty one (41) representatives from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia representing 425 mission schools throughout the country met at the conference. The participants were encouraged, affirmed and united by their common concern in improving their current high standards of education and providing the best oppurtunities for the children attending these schools. They came up with 14 resolutions to be addressed immediately by the government. Dato' Sri Najib, who launched the formation of the Federation of Christian Mission Schools of East and West Malaysia promised he would try his best to look with these resolutions.

BOG cum SCHOOL VISIT
1) On the 6th January 2010, AEC visited St. Phillip Tamparuli BOG together with the Parish Priest, Rev. Nicholas Stephen.

2)The AEC was invited by Keningau Diocese to brief them the roles and functions of the Board of Governors in the School. And at the same time to help them to form the Diocese Education Commission for Keningau on June 2oth, 2009. it was well attended by all the BOG under Keningau Diocese with some heads of schools. This was initiated by Msgr. Gilbert Engan.
